Some of the most common disorders are depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and dementia.
The dementia is a general term that describes the memory loss and other intelectual abilities, and the most common form of it is Alzheimer.
It is most commonlyfound in adults, over the age of 60 years old, and it gets worst with time.
The early signs includes forgetting important dates, being confused about time or place, changes in mood or personality and also losing planning abilities.
Is is clasified as a major neurocognitive disorder, when the patient does not have the ability to live independently or minor, when it has a gradual decline in cognition, but can do things by their owns.
The age is the strongest risk factor, although it is not a typical normal aspect os aging, but the most important variable is the heredity. Also the role of genes is important such as apolipoprotein E4 (apoE), Amyloid precursor protein, (APP), Presenilin-1 (PS-1), and presenilin-2 (PS-2) mutations, which can increase the change of suffer it.
This is a disease that dont have cure. It has a slow progression and the affected functions can not be repared, however, symptoms can be targeted to reduce the impact.
There is commonly two types of medications. The Donepezil and the Memantine, but it has a huge impact in the body of the patient.
I have a relative that suffers it, and through the time i had seen all the changes. At the beginning i asocciated it to the age. Then started to forget and re-say the things over and over again i a short period of time, so the short memory is the most affected.
